Lawyer Convicted of Insurance Fraud
A lawyer in New Hampshire was convicted of insurance fraud because he was driving a vehicle without insurance but when he turned in the claim he said he was driving a vehicle that was on his policy in order to try to get it covered. Here is the story from the Hampton Union
NORTH HAMPTON - Insurance Commissioner Roger A. Sevigny announced today an investigation by the N.H. Insurance Department Fraud Unit led to a criminal conviction in the Rockingham County Superior Court. On April 7, 2006, lawyer James T. Grew, of North Hampton, pleaded guilty to one count of insurance fraud. Grew was involved in a minor vehicle accident in a mall parking lot during which he backed his uninsured van into a parked vehicle.
Grew falsely reported to Progressive Insurance that he was driving a different vehicle, which had been properly insured, according to court documents. Grew misrepresented the vehicle he was operating in order to make the loss qualify for coverage.
Grew was given a one-year suspended jail sentence, a $1,000 fine, 100 hours of community service and court ordered restitution of $284.
A criminal conviction on your record is never good. So, when it comes time to file a claim, remember, Honesty is the best policy.
